There are multiple ways to manage irritable bowel syndrome - it's not only about fibre and FODMAPs. I talk to the Daily Express, alongside Professor of Medicine & Gastroenterology Peter Whorwell, about other therapies you can try including yoga and walking.
“While dietary changes can help some get IBS symptoms under control, lifestyle changes may also be effective. A 2015 pilot study looked at the effects on people with IBS enrolled in twice-weekly Iyengar yoga classes versus regular walking. Those doing yoga reported significant decreases in symptom severity, gut sensitivity and anxiety. The walking group showed significant decreases in overall gut symptoms and anxiety. Interestingly, more people kept up a walking practice after six months, and subsequently benefited from ongoing symptom relief.”
